Newsweek Live Talk
Jun 21st, 2007 by brangelina
Sean Smith from Newsweek has an exclusive web chat with Angelina scheduled tomorrow at 2PM EST.
Go here to submit your questions for the interview.
If your lucky and it’s a good question, maybe Sean will choose yours. It’s worth a try at least.
Sean is the one who did that excellent, excellent Newsweek interview this past week with Angelina that goes beyond just talking about “A Mighty Heart.”
I know this excerpt has been posted on other fan blogs but it really is incredible and it’s worth reposting:
She also draws a lot of fire for crossing that line. Even after six years, Jolie is suspected of being a dilettante, a “celebrity tourist” to global crises. It’s a charge that irritates those closest to her. “What would she have to do to prove that she’s sincere?” says Pitt’s producing partner, Dede Gardner. “Should she give more money? More time? It’s a black-hole debate. When people judge anyone’s sincerity, I just think, ‘Oh, yeah? What are you doing?’ ” Still, does Jolie really understand complex global issues, or does she just show up for a photo op wherever the UNHCR sends her? “She’s absolutely serious, absolutely informed,” says former secretary of State Colin Powell. “Her work with refugees is not something to decorate herself. She studies the issues.” Powell has spoken with Jolie several times over the years, and they’ve been honored together at benefits for refugee causes. There is, he says, no sanctimony about her. “For her, it’s not about saving the world, it’s about saving kids,” he says. “She doesn’t need this. This needed her.”

FoxNews: “A Mighty Hypocrite”
FoxNews or Colin Powell. Who do you think has the more credible and accurate portrayal of Angelina?

Instead of questioning and judging Angelina on what her motives are in joining the UNHR, why don’t we try and find out how we can be of help. We do a lot of talking and finger pointing, but yet we never want to lift a finger to help. Angelina could have just sent monetary help, but she wanted to get a hands on, she can just stay home with her family, but yet she wants hers and Brad’s children to see why she’s doing this, going to this places, spending her own money for her own fare, to see in person how miserable the lives of this refugees are. It’s not enough to send money, it’s to see with our own eyes what this refugees are going through, specially the innocent children. At the end of the day, once we all meet our maker, when he asks, what have you done to help the needy, I for one would like to say, I did what I could…
I totally agree. I know there is a lot of general Brangelina talk here but I often in my posts point people to sites where they can make a difference. On the sidebar, I now have permanent links to organizations Brad and Angelina are involved in.
One of the things we like to do as a family is making shoebox Christmas gift care packages for Samaritan’s Purse. I’m also looking at sponsoring a Compassion International child. My children are young and this is a good way to expand their world view and establish a giving spirit in their lives. When they’re older, I’ll look into ways they can give their time for the needy.
