Big News!

Angelina Jolie has become the honorary chairperson of the Global Action for Children (GAC) Board. Today, she appeared at a press conference to announce the formal launch of the organization.
GAC actually started in 2003 as an independent, collaborative campaign of nongovernmental, faith-based, and student organizations dedicated to supporting orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) and the communities, and families that care for them. (Source: GAC website)
Global Action for Children’s current priorities are to build political will, promote sound policies, and mobilize resources in support of (1) an expanded, comprehensive response to the crisis of orphans and vulnerable children; (2) accelerating universal basic education and the elimination of school fees; and (3) increasing the commitment of the U.S. and other wealthy nations to issues that affect children including malaria, child survival and early childhood development.
According to earthtimes.org, GAC is focusing on getting the US government to increase funding by $2.5 billion per year for programs with these goals.
Last September, Angelina and Brad donated $1 million to the group.
